My problem of practice prototype

My problem of practice was to increase the level of my projects and activities in my new Intro. to baking and pastry class to meet the redefinition or modification level of the SAMR model.

Based on the feedback I got, I chose to focus on the project where the students create a video teaching the rest of the class a skill or technique.

My concerns

My issue is creating a flipped classroom in a school district with limited resources and a school with a high population of students that qualify for free and reduced lunch.

We can use digital media technology to reach out to the community to gain support for the changes we want to make in our classrooms. We can use it to show the learning that is currently taking place in our classrooms and also show the need for help from the community to build upon and strengthen the current learning and implement new technology.  In my district, we need the support of the community as support from home can only take us so far.   If we are going to change our classrooms into a more beneficial and productive environment for learning it needs the support of parents as well as members of the community to be successful.

The concept of student-centered learning is so necessary in my classes.  Many of my students are visual or hands-on learners, so being able to change the dynamics around in order to allow more time for demonstrations and lab time is extremely beneficial.  It allows me the opportunity to introduce new concepts to them via the internet, they can begin to understand what we will be discussing, do some research on the topic or perhaps watch a video presentation about it.  Then when they get to class, they already have some; albeit limited information on the subject that I can now delve deeper into and expand their knowledge of.

I had not considered, from a student’s perspective, what the ideal layout of my classroom might be.  I am now trying to think like one of my students and consider if there is a better use of my classroom space that would be of greater benefit to them.  When I consider the limited resources we have as a school district, it makes you want to make the most out of what you do have.
